I have been a Pagan since 1985, a Wiccan since 1991, a Unitarian since 2007, and also dropped in on Druidry for a while. I have nearly completed an MA in Contemporary Religions and Spiritualities at Bath Spa University. I have written four books: The Enchanted Forest: the magical lore of trees; Auguries and Omens: the magical lore of birds; The Sacred Grove: the mysteries of the forest; and The magical lore of animals. I also write poetry. I have a strong interest in ethnography, mythology, symbolism, languages, science fiction, history and archaeology. I live in Bristol, and am married to Nick Hanks, an archaeologist. We have 2 cats.

I personally am a sort of squidgy polytheist (also known as a monist or polymorphist). I believe we are all part of the Universe, but don't believe in a Creator or Divine Source external to the Universe. I think there may be wights, spirits of place, or whatever, and individual deities, which are all immanent in nature; but I think some of them may be aspects of each other, and they are all emergent properties of the universe, as are we.  They are certainly not external to the universe; and I think that there is an underlying unity which is gloriously expressed in the wonderful diversity of nature and spirit (but spirit is an emergent property of nature, not the other way around). The underlying unity doesn't have much personality; it's pure energy, and only acquires personality on a local basis when we interact with it ritually and socially (people also acquire personality when interacted with socially).
