Connecting with Nature

Many modern Pagans are keen on the concept of connecting with Nature (or sometimes the land, or the Earth). Ancient Paganisms did not really have this concept; they seem to have been more about propitiating deities to get the crops to grow, and so on. Of course there was personal spirituality and a yearning for the divine in ancient Paganisms, but it was not necessarily formulated in terms of connecting with Nature, which seems to be a modern concept caused by post-Industrial-Revolution alienation.
