Pagan mythology is considered a source of wisdom and inspiration. It is the stories of the gods, wights and heroes that provide theology in context. Many Pagans would argue that we don't need theology because we have mythology.
Most Pagans do not believe that their mythology is literally true (though they are likely to believe that deities are real) but that the stories are metaphors for some psychological or spiritual truth.
