Many Pagans are outsiders, feeling themselves to be at odds with the consumerist ethic of contemporary society, and therefore are non-conformist. Unthinking conformity for the sake of it is alien to most Pagans, but many would argue that we should not "throw the baby out with the bath-water" - not all the values of mainstream society are bad; sometimes they are ethical and have been put in place for a good reason.
How far should one accept the rules of the society in which one lives? To put it another way: at what point does conformity become corruption? Only by answering such questions does the conscience truly define itself. ~
