Classical Paganism generally refers to the Paganisms and related traditions of the ancient Graeco-Roman world. These may include philosophical traditions, mystery religions, and 'folk' traditions (the paganism of the people). It may also refer to ancient Egyptian religion, which inspired most of the magical practices which continued after the dominance of Christianity.
Classical Pagan motifs (deities and philosophy) enjoyed a revival in the Renaissance, with the works of Sandro Botticelli, Giordano Bruno and others. The classical deities were largely used in an allegorical way in the Renaissance.
Classical Greek and Roman deities were very popular in the early phase of the 20th century Pagan revival, since they were the ones with whom people were most familiar.
